Starting the background

I like to start my beaded work with a fabric collage. I like how this one looks like a landscape! This is 8 1/2 x 11 and I am not intending to work this large (unless I want to complete only one!) I will cut the image area from this sheet of possibility and create from there. I found I had some pellon fleece and will use it, along with typing paper and the fabric. Before I can decide I will do a lot of stitching and will shrink it so there is texture.

I have a book of 1930s-era art deco style cosmetics and soap labels and I will use that era as inspiration for my January piece. I went with a literal seasonal mood in the colors for the background. It doesn't really show in the scan very well, but there are metallics infused in the background.

  1. This is MOST interesting!!! I hope you'll have time and energy to post pictures of your process as it develops... Wow! I love it and the way it "says" January in so many ways!

  2. oooh, despite the fact that I haven't quilted anything in more years than I can remember, I'm still a fiberholic. This is a wonderful start for your project, and it is SO January! I can't wait to see the finished piece!
