Finally, my January piece is finished.

Or close to finished. I plan to frame this piece, so the task still remains to select a backgroundfabric, select a frame and complete it. During that process there are some beads, the white beads and bugles that edge the beaded frame in the piece, that I feel will look better if they are sewn down and will be straighter.

I'm still a little close to it, but I am happy and will be pleased to set it aside and get February started...and not a moment too soon!

  3. it reminds me a winter snowstorm with things blowing every which way, but it's all in harmony with itself. i love the stitching throughout and the different levels (upper, middle section, lower area) and how they are so different but work so well together. i would really love to know your thought process in creating this piece, the story behind it and what it all meant to you. i think it's fantabulous.

  4. Beth, this piece just totally ROCKS me outta my slippers! CRIMINEEE, it is quite quite wonderful...the layeringlayeringlayering of all those fabrics, the way that bottom tube bead (which I adore) grounds the whole composition, and all that delicious movement - swirls, dashes, flakes & flurries - has created a most perfect January. Icy, chilly, with a blackness filled in with lovely crystalline light...well, that's how it feels to me anyways. Wondrous. And I will echo what Lisa has said: if you are comfortable with it, could you post a little something about the story behind it?

I too, can't wait to see what you'll come up with next! (not meant as pressure but purely the joy of anticipation :>]]

  6. I agree with everyone - beautiful, snowy, swirly - it's great! I especially love how the border is filled in with black beads and has the circles of white beads. Lovely. The whole thing reminds me of an illuminated book page.

  7. I love it! So many of us were beading the weather with January, this one reminds me of what I was feeling with mine. I think we are all going to take a spring-ish direction asap.
    It's beautiful!

  8. So swirrlllyyy. I love all the textures. I have a tendency to go the opposite way and bead with the hot colors in the winter, wishful thinking... nice to find a fellow alaskan Kate

  9. Very nicely done, you mentioned framing & background fabric, maybe try red or white, that way your piece will jump right out at you.
