Friday Art Poll

dscf0299

Here  is a short quote that jumped out at me from the text of a magazine today:

The essence of art is human association”

I’ve been thinking about it all day.

It is one of those deceptively simple elemental concepts that teases the mind with layers of meaning.  It transcends all of the details of art making, art viewing or experiencing, success, failure, quality, concepts.  Art is by us and for us and of us.

Marcel Duchamp said  “I don't believe in art. I believe in artists.”

I’ve been posting a poll on my Facebook page for a couple of years, just for fun.  When I was pondering the human association element today, it occurred to me that a Friday poll here on my blog might be a fun thing to try.  I figure most people who drop by are artists in one way or another.  We are all creators.

I’ll throw out a question, answer in the comments.

For today:  On a day when your ability to work is thwarted, or if you are just not “feeling it” what are some of the activities you go to to keep your energy going?

  1. 1. I reach for my library of art books and feast my eyes and heart - serendipity seems to take me to just the right place.
    2. I start creatint a fabric collage backgound and playing with fabric - I can't have too many and it gets me looking and thinking.
    3. I roll paper beads and cut up magazines and other scraps for future creations.

  2. Depending on the current project, I go to my bookshelf and rediscover the contents of either a book or magazine. If I'm thwarted, its due to a time limit or heavy work load at my day job. A cup off coffee, the recliner and glossy pages do wonders.

    good question.

  3. I'll clean and organize my work area, sometimes just putting away the massive amounts of beads that have accumulated on the table can help. Less clutter, more inspiration!

  4. I must agree with Kate, although I doubt she ever has a failure to be inspired.(I am a fan of hers). But I find if my table gets to that ..totally out of control...stage I have to clean, and while cleaning and handling all those great beads, thoughts begin to pile up. Blog hopping to other Beaders blogs gets me going too.
