Main focus of January completed…

january project in progress
The first thing to say is – even  though this looks a lot like my art pins, it is  twice as large.  this is the main image of the piece, but there will be one more element surrounding what you see above – a ring of beads or maybe a fiber element – or a combination of both.
I started, as I always do, by collaging fabrics.  the fabrics that show here are both vintage kimono silks.  I took an antique brooch that I have had for a while and took it apart.  I thought it was interesting how the warm colored faux pearls were paired with silver – it seemed kind of unusual.  I was happy to combine that with a variety of winter blues.  This is definitely the mood of a Juneau Winter.
It’s too large to be worn, so my next decision needs to be how to finish it.  I  am trying to decide between keeping it simple and just adding the edging layer and then using it as a book cover….or whether to  get a small canvas and actually make it a wall piece.  What is shown is 2.5 inches in diameter , it will be about 3inches across when the it’s ready for its fate.
Or, maybe as I’m sleeping on it and pondering over the next couple of days, Ill think of another idea.

  3. Make new with the old! I love it! I collect old jewelry myself and one day, when my collection is bigger, I plan to deconstruct them and give them a new life! Looking forward to you next piece!

  4. Very nice! I especially like the way you've used so many different kinds of beads and embellishments. A lovely color combination.

  5. Beth, it's beautiful. I like the idea of putting it on a canvas as a wall piece.

  6. I agree with all the above comments. I really like the look of the silver and creamy pearls together, very victorian looking. If you need snow down your way, we have plenty here on Kachemak Bay, enough to share. Ok, not anywhere as much as Cordova or Valdez, but we do have plenty. Have fun, and Happy Beading.
